How Instagram can Benefit Your Business

How Instagram can Benefit Your Business
Amber Hyde | Creative Coordinator

Just recently we set up our own company Instagram account. Instagram is a platform were people follow their passions, such as travel, art or entertainment. They also want to connect with local businesses and promote their city, follow restaurants and large brands. Being a small local business we wanted to be able to reach the Lousiville community and since we are a creative business, Instagram is perfect for showcasing our creativity and projects to anyone searching for art or design.

Instagram has 300 million monthly active users, 2.5 billion likes daily and 70 million photos uploaded per day (Source: https://instagram.com/press/). So how do you know if your business is right for Instagram and how will it work for you?

Here are a few suggestions on what type of business works for Instagram:

  • A company that makes or sells a product that is interesting and can be showcased through photography.
  • A company that is promoting a certain type of lifestyle that will inspire people.
  • Any type of creative field that could showcase their portfolio.
  • Any business that is supporting the community through events or a service.
  • A company that wants to support/highlight their employees and events.

You know your business is right for Instagram, so how will it work for you?

Instagram is a very visual medium. It allows captivating images and videos to fill the screen with nothing else to clutter the users experience. This allows your brands story to be surrounded by other inspiring content. This creates a very engaged community were people are constantly searching for what inspires them and have a consistent feed of businesses and people they follow. You have the ability to reach people who are open to new and different perspectives.

All of this takes some effort on your businesses part as well. The business needs to consistently post photos that are relevant to the brand and potential customers. It is best to use imagery that is creative, simple and about everyday life, either within the business or lifestyle. And take advantage of business and lifestyle related (#) Hashtags that will expand your audience on Instagram.
